Equipment

  • 1 heavy-bottomed skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 cup dried breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • Sprinkle of salt

Instructions

  • First, heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed over medium-high heat. (Use enough oil to equal 1 inch in the skillet.)
  • Second, slice the onion into rings at your desired thickness. (I like 1/2 inch)
  • Third, separate the slices of onion.
  • Combine flour and sugar in a small bowl.
  • Next, pour the breadcrumbs into a separate shallow bowl.
  • Then, mix the egg and milk in a third bowl.
  • Next, place the separated onion slices in the flour mixture until coated, shake off the excess flour, and set aside.
  • Then, dip the flour-covered onion slices into the milk and egg mixture.
  • Next, place the coated onion ring into the breadcrumbs bowl until completely coated.
  • Then, drop the onion slices into hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.
  • Finally, remove the onion rings from the hot oil, place them on paper towels to drain excess oil, and sprinkle them with salt.
  • Serve the fried onion rings immediately with your favorite dishes!
