What’s so great about sausage balls?
Sausage balls are a family favorite around my place and there’s good reason. They are filled with the BEST seasoned sausage (Jimmy Dean), shredded cheese, and any biscuit mix of your choice. They are the perfect finger food since they are both easy to make but also SUPER DELICIOUS!
What kind of cheese do I use for sausage balls?
Now, traditionally bisquick sausage balls are made with extra sharp cheddar cheese, but I decided to make one slight change for a nice spicy kick. I opted for Pepper Jack cheese. (My family also LOVES pepper jack cheese.) You could also use Jimmy Dean hot pork sausage if you want even more spice but I think the spicy cheese is just the right amount.
Are sausage balls a good appetizer for parties?
This tasty treat is the perfect appetizer for Holiday gatherings or game day parties for many reasons. One reason is because they are great at room temperature. Also, they are bite-sized snacks that can be eaten with your hands or little cocktail forks. And there is no need for any dipping sauce, which can be a headache for serving and such a mess. (Although, if you would like to add something to dip them in, they lend themselves well to something sweet like syrup or even honey.)

What makes sausage balls so delicious?
Even though I’ve listed many compelling reasons why these sausage balls are the perfect party food, I haven’t mentioned the most important thing. The best part about this classic recipe is their ability to be both fluffy and crispy at the same time. The flakiness of the biscuit mix is so satisfying while the sausage gets crispy on the edges. The cheese acts like the glue holding everything together for a truly delightful and fulfilling bite.
And I know that we stick these tasty snacks into the appetizer category, and rightfully so, but they also make a delicious breakfast item!
Who is Jimmy Dean and how was his brand born?
Tips for Easy Jimmy Dean Sausage Balls with Pepper Jack Cheese:
- Don’t use pre-shredded cheese. Grating your own cheese is 100% better. The cheese melts better and has way more flavor.
- If you want to make these sausage balls more macro friendly, swapping the pork sausage for turkey sausage will save you quite a few calories.
