The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
Is there a more classic dessert in America than chocolate chip cookies? I think not. It’s the one sweet that can bring both kids and adults together in agreement alongside a tall glass of cold milk! Although they seem simple, creating the perfect chocolate chip cookie takes some skill. But don’t worry, you don’t have to figure it out alone. I’m sharing The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe with you so you can make this sweet treat anytime you desire!

When it comes to the best cookies, not only can the ingredients and flavors vary, but textures are also a really big part of the equation. For example, some cookies are really big and puffy, while others can be large and flat. Some are thin and crispy, while others are super soft to the touch. There is no right or wrong texture when it comes to cookies.
There are just preferences.
Speaking of preferences, let me tell you mine and why I think it makes the BEST chocolate chip cookies EVER! I like large cookies that are flat, slightly crispy around the edges, and buttery and soft in the center. I like ooey-gooey cookies. They are the perfect texture for dipping into a glass of milk! That’s exactly what you will get with my chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Another popular type of cookie is the New York Style. This cookie style has become popular in New York City and extended worldwide in the last couple of years, but it’s not something I grew up with. The cookies are massive! (I guess a big cookie for the Big Apple?) They are almost impossible for one person to finish and are often shared between people.
My only issue with this type of cookie is its very prominent flour flavor, and I prefer a buttery flavor.
These are the “Crumble” cookies of the world, and it’s no surprise that the flour shines on them because they are such thick cookies.
One of the most popular New York City bakeries that introduced this type of cookie is Levain Bakery. It’s a popular shop on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This city bakery has been serving up giant cookies in a hundred different ways since 1995.

Now that we’ve established what makes a delicious classic chocolate chip cookie, let’s discuss some other elements that can be added to “jazz” up your cookie for a little variety and different flavors:
- Dark chocolate – Some people prefer deep, rich flavors, which can balance sweetness well. If you find that traditional chocolate chip cookies are just too sweet for your liking, I would encourage you to swap out the milk chocolate for dark chocolate and see if that doesn’t help.

- Macadamia nuts—I believe everything needs a little crunch or texture. (I know it might not be a popular opinion with cookies, but it’s mine nonetheless.) Macadamia nuts, almonds, walnuts, or pecans are the perfect additions to these iconic cookies to take them to the next level.

- Raisins – I LOVE bites of dried fruit in my cookies. (Another deeply unpopular opinion, I’m sure.) Raisins give cookies this delicious chew and burst of fruit flavor that can’t be beaten. Plus, chocolate-covered raisins (Raisinets) are one of my childhood favorites. Fruit and chocolate are a match made in heaven.
- White Chocolate – This variation is for my people who like sweet cookies. White chocolate isn’t chocolate at all, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have a place in classic desserts. (It’s made from cocoa butter, milk, and sugar.) And although it certainly strikes a sweet chord, it doesn’t feel “heavy” like traditional chocolate. It pairs perfectly with nuts and is a delicious alternative to regular chocolate. Make this “white cookie” for your next special occasion to mix things up!

- Sea Salt—We know that sweet and salty go together well. Although our cookie dough recipe has sufficient salt, a sprinkling of flaky sea salt on top elevates the appearance of your cookies and truly brings out the chocolate flavor in that first bite!

I want to encourage you to try some more things with my delicious chocolate chip cookies.
First, make ice cream sandwiches with them. Yes, you heard me right—ice cream sandwiches.
After the cookies have been baked and completely cooled, place a scoop of vanilla ice cream between two cookies, press the flatten, and pop into the freezer to set.
They make the most delicious ice cream sandwiches because they are chewy, buttery, and big!
Use my chocolate chip cookie dough recipe to make a cookie cake. It’s the perfect base for a cookie cake—moist, full of chocolate chips, and perfectly chewy. Press the dough into a pan to create whatever shape you desire, then bake according to my recipe.
Make a chocolate chip cookie trifle. Take a glass trifle dish and layer crumbled chocolate chip cookies, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and other desired toppings!
Don’t forget to top the trifle with one last layer of whipped cream and cherries for a spectacular-looking dessert!
Instead of oatmeal cream pies, make chocolate chip cream pies. Much like the ice cream sandwich process mentioned earlier, take two chocolate chip cookies, but instead of pressing a scoop of vanilla ice cream between them, make a delicious pastry cream for the center instead. This will eliminate the need for the “sandwich” to go in the fridge/freezer and is perfectly served at room temperature!
If you don’t want to make your cream, simply use store-bought vanilla frosting!
How about making a super decadent dessert that mixes both chocolate chip cookies and decadent fudge brownies? (Some have called this invention a brookie!) Layer my cookie dough on a boxed brownie batter and bake. You will have this delightful marriage of a chewy cookie and a fudgy, cake-like brownie.
(This dessert is not for the faint of heart. Decadent doesn’t even begin to describe the level of sweetness here!)
Finally, we have a variation on S’MORES. Instead of using graham crackers and pieces of chocolate, use my chocolate chip cookies. Then, place a roasted marshmallow in between, or substitute marshmallow fluff if you aren’t having a bonfire soon. If the graham cracker is something you cannot live without, crumble some marshmallow fluff after slathering it on one side of the cookie and before topping it with the other.
