Easy and Delicious Brown Sugar Walnut Pie Recipe
I don’t know about you, but for me when it comes to food, I’m always trying to find something new. And when it comes to pies, that can be quite the challenge, especially when people tend to have their favorites and never really want to be adventurous. But this Easy and Delicious Brown Sugar Walnut Pie Recipe breaks those barriers. It’s familiar enough (think classic Pecan Pie recipe) to make the Thanksgiving dinner table and the Christmas Day menu but different enough to spark curiosity. I think it might just be your new favorite go-to pie for the holiday season. It’s simply an incredible pie!
Sharing is caring!
Traditional pecan pie stands elite in my family. It is a decadent dessert perfect for those special occasions when all of the family comes in and you visit with people that you haven’t seen in ages. And since I know how much everyone loves this pretty straightforward dessert, I started thinking about the possibility of using other nuts. I’ve never really heard anyone talk about a walnut, macadamia, peanut, or almond pie. (It sounds kind of absurd saying it out loud.) But, hey, why not? (I think I’m going to dive into some other “nutty pies” and see what else we can make in the future!)
Let’s learn all about Walnuts and their health benefits here!
First, I decided to dive headfirst into this walnut pie recipe idea. And since I’m changing the main star of the show, pecans to walnuts, I thought it would be a good idea to change the crust as well. My pecan pie recipe uses a traditional pie crust recipe that is both tender and flaky and compliments the sweetness and texture of the pecan pieces well.
But I wanted this walnut pie to stand out even more, so I went with a graham cracker crust. I’m a huge fan of graham cracker crusts, but I typically use them for Summer fruit pies or easy no-bake desserts. This would be my first time having a graham cracker crust in a fancy baked pie recipe. (Spoiler alert… it not only works great, but the texture is the most delicious chewy bite.)

Thankfully, it turned out great! I took this pie to some friends of ours to get their opinion and they LOVED it! One of them compared it to Apple Pie and Pecan Pie, which I found super interesting. I think the “apple” part comes in with the graham cracker crust because there are neither apples in this recipe nor cinnamon. So, I think that they honey in the graham crackers must add a warmth and depth that a traditional crust would not have achieved. And that added complexity of flavors made me fall in love with this recipe even more!
Tips for an Easy and Delicious Brown Sugar Walnut Pie Recipe:
- If you are concerned about the edges of your crust browning too much or burning, then place foil around them before baking in the oven.
- If you want to skip the graham cracker crust, by all means, make a traditional pie shell. I have the best flaky crust recipe right here! (It’s the crust recipe used in another one of my favorite pie recipes.)
