What makes Christmas Rum Punch so appealing?
This easy Christmas punch recipe is stunning, and I’m not just talking about the bright citrus flavors. It’s a gorgeous deep red color with pops of fresh orange slices that elevate any holiday party tablescape. It’s basically Christmas in a cup!
Serving this Christmas punch out of a glass beverage dispenser would be ideal so everyone can see the floating fresh fruit (cranberries and orange slices) and sprigs of Rosemary. (That green really pops!) You can also leave the fruit in separate bowls so guests can top their glass cups with an orange slice and a couple of frozen cranberries.
What does Christmas Rum Punch taste like?
Now, let’s talk about the flavor combinations going on. We have lots of citrus with oranges, pineapple, and lemon juice. I made this punch without the lemon juice, and when my daughter and I tasted it, we knew it needed something. She said, “It needs to be a brighter, more refreshing drink,” I immediately knew that the lemon juice would provide that “zip” that the punch was missing. Sure enough, after adding it, the punch had the perfect balance! Plus, we have that fizzy sparkle from the carbonated lemon-lime soda.
Another thing you could add to this festive punch to keep it cold without sacrificing flavor is orange sherbert. The sherbert would act like ice cubes, and as it slowly melts, it will impart even more orange flavor to this delicious holiday drink. Or make a festive ice ring with some pineapple/cranberry juice, orange juice, and lemon juice that can sit in the punch bowl. (sprigs of fresh rosemary inside the ice ring would be GORGEOUS!)

Why use extracts in mocktails?
The rum extract can add that “warm” flavor to the punch without adding alcohol. As previously stated, I don’t drink, but there are times when I enjoy the flavor of some cocktails but don’t want the unpleasant side effects. (HA) You can omit the rum extract altogether if you would like, or you could add a little more for a stronger flavor. That is completely up to you.
That is a nice little trick, and my favorite way, for making a non-alcoholic Christmas punch and a non-alcoholic version of some pretty popular cocktails. I don’t think people realize that adding alcohol-flavored extracts is an easy way to make mocktails for people who are avoiding alcohol for a multitude of reasons. It’s nice not to miss out on festive Christmas punch or other seasonal cocktails because you are abstaining.
