Paired with your favorite low-carb high-protein chips, it hits all the right spots when that craving comes for a salty snack you used to know.
Sharing is caring!
As you know, my dad and I have been meal-prepping for a minute now and I wanted to surprise him with a snack for the week that would be familiar but also be healthy. My dad is a HUGE lover of French Onion Dip and so I knew that I wanted to give him a version of his favorite dip that he wouldn’t have to feel guilty about. That’s where the Whipped Cottage Cheese Dip Recipe – French Onion edition comes into play.
This high-protein dip is also low-carb and that’s what my dad and I have been trying to make sure that we tackle with every single meal and snack. If we aim for at least 25 grams of protein per snack and meal, we are sure to hit our goals and stay fuller and satisfied longer. (Which is really important when trying to lose weight and be in a calorie deficit.)
I was already eating cottage cheese as a dip with my protein chips, and I was LOVING IT! But my dad isn’t a big fan of the texture of cottage cheese. The curds are off-putting to him. That’s why I chose to use blended cottage cheese. (You can use a food processor or blender for this.) This eliminates the texture issue and gives us a creamy base to flavor any way that we would like!
(A good friend of mine (Madalynn) mentioned blending the cottage cheese… and I’m forever grateful for that tip!)
If you would like to go a “fresher” route instead of using the Lipton Onion Soup & Dip Mix, you could certainly use fresh herbs like fresh garlic, black pepper, fresh parsley, red pepper flakes for a kick, and sauteed onions for a different version of this flavorful dip.
And since we are talking about cottage cheese, let’s quickly discuss how it is a healthy a versatile ingredient in a lot of dishes. What are the benefits of cottage cheese and why should we add or substitute cottage cheese in your recipes? Well… let me tell ya!
Cottage cheese can be used instead of sour cream, mayonnaise, and yogurt (in savory dishes). It can also be a great addition to your smoothies as a great way to get more protein and creaminess without adding too many calories and fat.
Some people also replace cream cheese with full-fat cottage cheese like on bagels and in desserts!

Why do I love this dish? Well, let me count the ways!
- It’s delicious! Who doesn’t love French Onion Dip?
- It’s quick to make and can last the entire week.
- That’s the whole point of meal-prepping. It’s to save us time in the kitchen and keep our macros in check. This recipe checks both of those boxes.
- It’s made in a high-speed blender. (That’s how we get that creamy texture.)
- It’s easy to tailor to your tastes. If you don’t like French Onion Dip, then add whatever seasonings you do like to the whipped cottage cheese and call it a day! (Ranch dip is also good!)
- It uses simple ingredients and just a few of them. (2) And that makes it approachable and cheap. (Which is super important to me!)
